High Value Consignment flagging lets your company set a dollar threshold that marks a consignment as "high value". When a consignment's total freight spend reaches that threshold, MachShip warns the person creating it, asks them to re-confirm the amount, and automatically flags and notifies the right people. This is a safeguard against costly data-entry mistakes.
Before you start
Feature access: High value consignment flagging may need to be enabled for your company. If you don't see the settings described below, contact your MachShip administrator.
Permissions: setting the threshold requires the Companies admin permission (Admin → Companies). This is available to both broker and enterprise administrators who have been granted it.
Setting your company's high-value threshold
Go to Admin → Companies and open the company you want to configure.
Set a dollar amount in the High Value Threshold field. Any consignment at or above this total will be treated as high value.
If you manage child companies, turn on High Value Threshold Inheritable to let them use the same threshold.
Click Save.
The threshold is also shown as read-only, on the company's View page.
How the threshold is inherited (companies with child companies)
A company always uses its own threshold if one is set — regardless of the Inheritable setting.
If a company has no threshold of its own, MachShip walks up the parent chain and uses the nearest ancestor whose threshold is marked Inheritable.
An ancestor whose threshold is not marked Inheritable is skipped, and the search continues further up.
Important: Inheritable defaults to OFF. A child company won't pick up a parent's threshold until you explicitly turn Inheritable on at the parent.
Creating a high-value consignment
When a route's total reaches the threshold, two things happen on the Create Consignment page.
1. A warning banner appears on the route card:
This consignment's total of ${total} exceeds your company's high-value threshold of ${threshold}. Note the amber high-value warning banner on a route card, in the screenshot below.
2. When you click Create, a confirmation dialog appears titled "High value consignment":
You are creating a high value consignment with a total cost of ${total}. Ensure that item details and sender/receiver locations have been entered correctly.
To proceed with creating this consignment, confirm the consignment value of ${amount}, by typing it to two decimal places in the field below.
Type the exact amount (for example, 81.85) into Type the dollar amount to confirm, then click Confirm High Value.
The consignment is not created until the amount matches. Click Cancel (or press Esc) to abort — your route and details are kept.
Good to know
Enter the amount as digits and a decimal point only — the field doesn't accept a $ sign.
Picking a cheaper route that falls under the threshold removes the warning and skips the confirmation step.
What happens to a high-value consignment
Once created, MachShip automatically:
Sets the Important flag on the consignment.
Adds a note recording that it's high value, for example: "Consignment is high value: total $X exceeds company high-value threshold $Y." — shown in the Consignment Notes section.
Emails nominated contacts.
Generates in-app notification for consignment watchers
If your consignments show an Activity panel (instead of a Consignment Notes section): the high-value note appears in the Activity timeline, and the consignment's watchers are also notified that a high-value consignment was created. Companies without the Activity panel have no watchers, so no watcher notification is sent — the Important flag, the note, and the emails work exactly the same for everyone. The system generated high-value note in the Consignment Notes section.
The system generated activity in the Activity section.
Emailing nominated contacts
You can have specific company contacts emailed whenever a high-value consignment is created.
Go to Admin → Companies → [company] → Contacts and create or edit a contact.
Turn on Receive High Value Consignment Email.
Click Save.
How Emailing nominated contacts works
Each contact is its own record with its own toggle — turning one on doesn't affect the others.
If you manage child companies, the send walks up the parent chain, so a contact set at a parent company is emailed for high-value consignments created on its child companies.
If the same email address is opted in at more than one level, that person still receives one email per consignment (duplicates are removed, ignoring case and spacing).
Contacts with the toggle off, or with no email address, are not emailed.
